Damien Hirst has worked with Studio Sem since 2007 starting with his 'Anatomy of an Angel' in Carrara marble. First shown at the Sotheby's auction in London "Beautiful Inside My Head Forever" in September 2008 where Damien stepped outside tradition by taking work directly to auction. The sales set an auction record for a single living artist.
Apart from marble sculpture we produce classical marble pedestals for many of his animals in tanks; the largest being the monolithic plinth for the 'Golden Calf'.
Damien is very decisive about the type of stone and the surface finishing of all his stone work asking for perfection in the stone and the execution. A pleasure to work with, he is very appreciative of the artisans and their courage to take on cutting edge sculpture that pushes the limits of the stone and requires the development of new techniques both in the execution and the surfacing of his work.
